this is an extended 'grammar lessons' activity


i'm supposed to upload some of the stories tonight, unfortunately, i left the materials at the office.

I love collecting postcards... and whenever friends ask me, what do you want as souvenirs... i would usually answer, get me some postcards.

my dad right after his double CABG last 24th June.

his bypass surgery is scheduled at 9.00am though... ya la, need to hook him to all those machine thingy... bla bla bla...

hope he will be ok.

at first he was placed at 3rd class ward - due to shortage of beds and rooms. but after Maghrib, he was moved to 1st class - 4 beds. yg kat 3rd class tu, asal nye bilik for 6 tapi sebab ramai nau sakit, jadik 9 in a room...

anyway, he'll be staying there until Sunday. if he's ok....

sudah niatku

i got my 'time-based' promotion in January. and gaji baru ni, i got the arrears. quite a lot since my time-based was backdated to April 2008. 2 tahun punye tunggakan babe... hehehe

so, last friday, i held a makan-makan for all the warga kerja at my work place.

memang sudah ku niatkan, dapat tunggakan, akan ku adakan kenduri kesyukuran.

anyway, thanks to everyone who came... semua datang sebenarnye... hehehe...

and especially to Kak June yg tolong dari A sampai Z. dari tolong tempah makanan/minuman; tolong hidang and tolong kemas...

as for me: i'm happy :-D

during Oral quiz last week.

Me: what do you usually do on weekends?

Student: first-first, i go eat-eat with friend-friend. Then go walk-walk with friend-friend round-round shopping complex. Then see movie.

ter-takashima (terkesima... hehehe) pun ye, nak tergelak pun ye.....

anyway, once we're done, i did correct her mistakes and inform her not to simply direct translate from BM to English.

bahasa SMS

i do use 'bahasa SMS' but only the ones yg have been 'universally' accepted. so imagine my shock when i received this SMS from a student:

'ms, ass bl kn anta?'

'ass'???

i only know 2 'ass'-es. The keldai and the pungkoq.

but instead of asking the meaning of her 'ass', i replied:
"kamu cakap bahasa alien mana ni?"

hehehe.... baru le dia hantar ayat yg elok sket...

i don't know about ejin, but i do have students yg when writing essays, somehow tak leh lari dari writing 'u' instead of 'you', 'b4' instead of 'before' so on so forth.

what did i do? aku kata, "1 bahasa sms korang guna, sengaja atau tak, aku tolak 5 markah". ngeh ngeh ngeh... that seems to get their attention... 5 markah oiii... banyak tu. nak-nak plak if markah yg diorang dapat, is already low to begin with.

Lahabau kau...

ramai tanye aku, knape orang melaka suke nau guna 'lahabau' when greeting people.

hehehe... it's not a 'rude' word, actually it means 'lama nye takde berita dari kamu'...

you see, lahabau is actually a 'twisted' form of "la khabar", an Arabic phrase for 'why no news?'. Zaman dulu kan Melaka pusat perdagangan... so ramai saudagar Arab berniaga...

Pak Arab ni bila jumpe kengkawan yg dah lama tak jumpe, diorang cakap 'la khabar?'

orang melaka pulak, kami ni kan if ujung 'r' jadik 'u'... maka jadik le 'la khabar' tu... 'la khabau'...

and after many-many-many-many years... it becomes 'lahabau'.

dan memang sebenar nye penggunaan 'lahabau' tu untuk menyapa those yg dah lama kita tak jumpe, bukan untuk menyumpah. cume orang luar je yg guna 'lahabau' as a rude word....

Amali Sembelihan

It's a 3-in-1 program. Gotong-royong 'Gempur Pembiakan Aedes' followed by the 'Sembelihan' and finally "Pengurusan Jenazah". Petang and malam plak ada BBQ.

Ayam 40 ekor, kambing sekor.

Masa sembelihan tu le akan tau sapa yg nampak je berani tapi sebenar nye idok and sapa yg nampak je 'fragile' but actually very the berani one.... hehehe....

all in all, i had fun last Saturday. dah abis program, went for lunch at Resepi Rahsia... hehehe... lasagna and then tapau blackforest cheesecake. yummy-licious!
